The National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature and highest state organ of power, opened its third session today (March 5). Wan Li, Deputy to the National People's Congress and Vice President of the All China Lawyers Association (ACLA), shared his insights with GDToday on the emerging challenges brought by artificial intelligence (AI) and his focus on legislative matters.
Wan acknowledged AI's contributions to society, highlighting its potential to bring efficiency, convenience, and new opportunities. However, he stressed the need for regulation to address the emerging issues that accompany the rapid development of AI technologies. He pointed out the necessity for research on the proper use of AI and suggested that clear boundaries should be set to determine when AI should serve merely as a reference and when it can be applied.
In addition to AI, Wan also highlighted his ongoing focus on legislative matters, particularly the introduction of the private sector promotion law and revising laws such as the Teachers Law and the Lawyers Law.
