Vlog: Shopping on Guangzhou's Yide Road for Chinese New Year goods

"Before returning to Hong Kong for the Chinese New Year, I plan to buy New Year goods with good price and quality on Yide Road in Guangzhou," said Sze Kam-lung, a Hong Kong resident who has worked in the Chinese mainland for many years.

Yide Road is one of the top places for locals to buy New Year goods. As the Year of Rabbit approaches, Spring Festival couplets, lucky characters, Chinese knots, paper cuttings, lanterns, and toys related to both the festival and the Chinese zodiac decorate the street.

"Today the street was bustling with people, and I was inspired by such festive vibes as well and felt so happy.” Sze said that the upcoming Chinese New Year seems to be particularly busy, and everyone is gradually getting over the effects of the pandemic. "Hoping that 2023 will be a bright and prosperous year."

Sze has not been back to Hong Kong for almost 3 years. With the resumption of cross-border travel between the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong, he will go back to Hong Kong this year for the Chinese New Year.
