With three rivers converging and four cities standing along the Pearl River Estuary, there are infinite vitality and possibilities. Born by the Pearl River, four cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), including Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, and Zhongshan, are located on different banks of the river.
With the opening of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge on June 30, the three metropolitan areas of Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and the west bank of the Pearl River Estuary, with a population of more than 80 million and a total GDP of 80 percent of Guangdong Province, will work together to greatly improve the competitiveness of the 100-kilometer inner bay around the Pearl River Estuary.
So far, the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge has gained ten world records, including the world's longest span fully offshore steel box girder suspension bridge (main span of 1666 meters), and the world's longest two-way eight-lane immersed tube tunnel (length of 5,035 meters, consisting of 32 tube sections + one final joint). More than 15,000 builders worked for over 2,000 days and nights to build the world's most challenging cross-sea cluster project, showcasing Guangdong's experience to the world.
From two hours's drive to half an hour, the distance between Shenzhen on the east bank and Zhongshan on the west will be reduced, enabling Shenzhen's scientific innovation ability and Zhongshan's industrial potential to better complement each other.
The Wanqingsha interchange connects the Nansha-Zhongshan Expressway and the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge, serving as a major traffic transfer hub among Guangzhou, Zhongshan, and Shenzhen. With the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge as the node, the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong and Guangzhou-Zhuhai-Macao technological innovation corridors will be connected, contributing to the free flow of people, logistics, capital, and information. The GBA is now accelerating its efforts to become a global hub for technological innovation and an important source of emerging industries.
Viewing from the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge towards the two banks, a world-class dynamic bay area is right in front of you.
