Founder of YPC: language of music brings US and Chinese youth together

On October 6, the Young People's Chorus of New York City (YPC) visited Shenzhen Senior High School. During the visit, teenagers from Shenzhen and New York performed famous songs together in both Chinese and English, such as "Jasmine," "Try Everything" and "Baby".

Francisco J. Núñez, Founder and Artistic Director of the Young People's Chorus of New York City, told GDToday that he believed the language of music could unite people in a way that nothing else could.

Although the teenagers were singing mostly in different languages, Núñez said they were able to understand one another.

"You can hear it in the sound of the voice. You can hear it in the way they sing," Núñez said. "We understand the message, and I think that's what music does."

Speaking about the impact of these cultural exchanges on broader ties between China and the U.S., Núñez believed that music could foster understanding among younger generations.

"They're the next generation," Núñez said. "So I think by coming together and making friends now, they'll make a big difference in the future."
