101-year-old woman Tan Meilan was making zongzi with her family and neighbors in Qingyuan, Guangdong province, China, for the Dragon Boat Festival of this year.
Despite being over 100 years old, Grandma Tan is still skillful. She put fresh zongzi leaves, glutinous rice, red beans and bacon into them, creating a long zongzi while explaining the steps of making Zongzi to the children. The children sat around and learned the steps.
Grandma Tan is very energetic. She takes pleasure in clearing weeds from the corners of the walls, and can also wash rice and cook for herself. She has a kind temper and always says to people with a smile, "So well behaved, so well behaved!"
In Dalang Village, Dongcheng Street, Qingcheng District, there are five elderly people over the age of 96, with Tan being the oldest. At present, there are 61 members in her family spanning five generations. There are more than 450 centenarians like Tan in Qingyuan, Guangdong. Good ecological environment, healthy lifestyle, peaceful state of mind, harmonious family and neighborhood relations, hard-working habits, etc., make them live longer.
