Is Western narrative of China as neo-colonialist power resonating with African societies?

The 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation concluded on Friday (Sept. 6), with both sides reaching a clear consensus on strengthening comprehensive cooperation, marking a successful conclusion to the summit.

As China-Africa cooperation continues to expand into new areas and reach new heights in recent years, some Western media have labeled China as a "neo-colonialist" power aiming to stir negative sentiments in public discourse. However, African representatives at the summit unanimously refuted these Western narratives against China.

Why is China's every move in Africa attracting such intense scrutiny from Western societies? What's driving this attention?
