News Xplained | How Ne Zha 2 is fueling China's Capital of Toys

China's latest animated blockbuster, Ne Zha 2, is not only breaking box office records but also driving a surge in toy production in Dongguan, the country's Toy Capital.

With a global box office exceeding $1.9 billion, the film has sparked massive demand for merchandise, including blind boxes, figurines, and limited-edition collectables.

Dongguan's factories, already a powerhouse in toy manufacturing, are now experiencing an unprecedented surge in orders.

One Dongguan-based factory reported receiving a 100-million-yuan order ($14 million) soon after the film's release—more than its entire revenue for 2024.
