The arrival of Grain in Ear marks the beginning of a busy farming season.
During this Solar Term for sowing and harvesting, our host Vivian Ma brings green plums simmered in sugar syrup, a seasonal dessert for Grain in Ear. She’s visiting Ms. Lucia Pasqualini, Consul General of Italy in Guangzhou. Grain in Ear spans most of June, which is also a month for leaving: Lucia is going to end her four-year tenure and leave Guangzhou for Rome. Before she leaves, she curates a China-Italy food photo exhibition that highlights the collision and fusion of the culinary cultures between China and Italy.
From the ancient Silk Road to the Belt and Road Initiative, China and Italy have been actively engaging in cultural exchanges, economic cooperation, business and trade. The Wenchuan Earthquake and COVID-19 pandemic have witnessed the true friendship and solidarity in times of adversity between the peoples of the two countries. Over the centuries, sticking to their original aspiration, China and Italy are sure to have another fruitful year and keep moving towards prosperity.
