"Debt trap diplomacy" myth debunked by African Leaders

China's growing presence in Africa, marked by unprecedented depth and breadth, is seen as one of the most significant developments of the early 21st century.

Meanwhile, there has been theories suggesting that China is creating a debt trap in Africa.

A South African media representative attending the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation in Beijing emphasized that Western countries should show more respect to African leaders, who are fully aware that China is genuinely interested in the development of their nations.

On Thursday eventing, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a joint press conference with Foreign Ministers of Republic of Senegal, Republic of the Congo. Yassine Fall, Senegalese Minister of Foreign Affairs told journalists that the relationship with China is built on mutual growth.

Africa has resources and a large, young population. With proper training, these young people will not only build Africa but also contribute to the world, particularly as many other populations are aging. This is why the partnership with China is a win-win scenario, said Fall.
