Recently, a leopard cat, a second-class national key protected wild animal, has been active in the Xiangtoushan National Nature Reserve in Huizhou City, Guangdong in the past month.
Infrared cameras in the sanctuary recorded the trace of this leopard cat. This leopard cat takes a walk in front of the camera and observes its surroundings. It also hunts for food in a cave.
Leopard cats are agile and usually feed on small animals such as mice and birds. Some are active during the day, but most hunt at night. They are professional climbers and quite arboreal in their habits. They rest in trees but also hide in dense thorny undergrowth on the ground.
Guangdong Xiangtoushan National Nature Reserve has a forest coverage rate of 94.4%, and is an important water conservation site for the Dongjiang River. In addition to leopard cats, the infrared cameras in the reserve have also captured videos of many rare wild animals, such as white pheasants and spotted raccoons.
