A delegation of 26 journalists and editors from mainstream media outlets across countries along the Maritime Silk Road is currently visiting Guangdong Province from November 28 to December 2, engaging in a series of tours and exchanges designed to gain first-hand insights into Guangdong's high-quality development path.
Among them was Meli Maafu Fanua Laddpeter, a journalist from the Fijian Broadcasting Corporation, who, having only read about China in books, described this trip as a "full-circle moment" in his life.
An avid reader of Chinese history, Meli first encountered China through the mythological books on his grandfather's bookshelf. Since then, he had daydreamed about the country, which, from his readings, he perceived as a deeply traditional nation. His visit, however, has profoundly enriched those book-based impressions.
During his stay in China's tech city Shenzhen, from Nov. 28-29, Meli also discovered a wide range of topics: new-energy vehicles, AI content generation, AI translation headphones, Chinese theatre, scenic parks, and the sharing economy.
He was amazed by the balance between urban development and nature in Guangdong. Eager to share his experiences, Meli plans to write a report, believing the technological advancements and peaceful life he witnessed would greatly interest people back in Fiji.
Follow the reporter's lens to see what wowed Meli.
