Documentary Hotline Beijing resonates with foreign audience, highlighting China's urban governance

On March 14, Beijing hosted a film-screening seminar titled Beijing at Your Service, where over 100 attendees from 41 countries gathered to watch the documentary "Hotline Beijing".

The film highlights the crucial role of the 12345 hotline in addressing public concerns, showcasing the dedication of call operators, community workers, and government departments in resolving everyday challenges.

Starting from February 18, "Hotline Beijing" began its nationwide release. As of March 16, the film had grossed approximately 75 million yuan at the box office, ranking third among domestic documentary films.

The documentary left a strong impression on international viewers. "I didn't know this hotline was that busy. The work they're doing for citizens is amazing," said Kelly Castro de Araujo, a Brazilian student at the Communication University of China. "I really liked the movie—it was very touching."

Japanese student Ohori Rio shared a similar sentiment, saying she had little knowledge of the hotline before but now recognizes its impact. "It works 24/7 to solve real-life issues, like parking and installing elevators in old buildings. Knowing about it will make our lives as international students in China much easier."

Beyond the hotline, China has been enhancing services for foreigners, streamlining visa renewals and improving public infrastructure. "It took me only a week to renew my visa, whereas in my country, it takes about a month," noted Malaysian student Chieng Jing Kiong.

Currently, the film "Hotline Beijing" is screening in major cinemas across the country, and based on audience feedback, it is worth checking out.
