Russian holds military parade, citizens vow to remember the history

On May 9, Russia held an annual military parade on Moscow's downtown Red Square to commemorate the 79th anniversary of the Soviet Union's victory over Nazi Germany in 1945.

"It is a great celebration for the entire nation. As a Russian citizen, I’m really proud," said a Russian citizens to GDToday. “I also remember what my grand grand parents did to defend against the Nazi Germany.”

A solider who took part in the parade stressed that the purpose of the parade is to ensure that everyone remembers the history. He said, "If we forget the history, we won't have a future."

The parade, involving over 9,000 people and 70 pieces of military equipment, started with the guard of honor bringing the Russian national flag and the Soviet Banner of Victory into the square.
