Eastern section of Maoming Port's Bohe New Port Area opens

On January 3, the eastern section of Maoming Port's Bohe New Port Area officially opened. Designated as an oil and petrochemical operation zone, the Area has temporarily opened four oil and chemical berths, further streamlining the supply chain for Maoming's petrochemical industry by facilitating the import of raw materials and export of finished products.

Located along the southwestern coast of Guangdong Province, Maoming Port serves as a key maritime gateway for South and Southwest China and is one of the closest ports on the Chinese mainland to the Strait of Malacca and the South China Sea oil and gas fields. Bohe New Port Area, the main hub of Maoming Port, is a cornerstone of the city's deep-water port development strategy, planning to have 33 berths.

Known as the "Oil City of the South," Maoming has a robust petrochemical industry foundation. The region is home to Maoming Petrochemical, one of China's largest integrated oil refining and petrochemical enterprises. The eastern section of Bohe New Port Area features 13 oil and petrochemical berths with capacities exceeding 10,000 tons, accounting for approximately 6% of the nation's berths of this type.

To date, the Bohe New Port Area has completed the construction of five 100,000-ton berths and three 50,000-ton berths. A 300,000-ton terminal is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.

In the future, Maoming Port aims to become a comprehensive port specializing in petrochemical products while also handling grain, coal, minerals, steel, and LNG. Upon full completion, the Bohe New Port Area will achieve an annual throughput capacity of 150 million tons, contributing to Maoming Port's total capacity of 370 million tons. This will place it among the world's top 50 ports and establish it as a vital "South China Sea Energy Corridor" connecting the East and the West.
