On May 4th, GDToday salon "An Encounter with Marco Polo" was held at the Guangzhou Opera House, in company with the restaging of the original opera Marco Polo. Macro Polo-themed oil paintings exhibited during the salon show a cherished friendship between painter Sandro Trotti and the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts (GAFA).
Before the salon, Trotti accepted GDoday's exclusive interview and prepared a video for the salon, sending his regards to all his friends in China.
The paintings displayed in the salon are a series of paintings named The Reverie of Macro Polo, including 3 Italy-themed oil paintings named The Sky Over Rome, Flavours of Venice, and The Horse Racing, and two China-themed paintings named The Miao Woman/Lady and A Town on the Border.
Trotti is a master of Italian oil painting and is famous for his Neo-expressionism works. He has created a series of works since 2015 with both Italian and Chinese themes.
In his interview, Trorri recalled the best days as a professor at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts. He then met a group of young, passionate artists in Guangzhou. "A day as a teacher, a lifetime as a father," Trotti quoted a well-known Chinese proverb. He has always been proud to guide these young talents who work tirelessly and enthusiastically and are dedicated to making crafts.
In addition, Trotti looked back on his artistic journey in Guangzhou. He regards Guangzhou as a picturesque city where you can see the strong vitality of various industries along the Pearl River. Over the years, he has drawn a lot of inspiration here and appreciated the art education in the city.
Trotti said that China and Italy share many similarities as ancient civilizations, which have facilitated bilateral exchanges in art for years. He found many manuscripts with expressive features, from which he got to reshape his oil painting style.
Trotti welcomed all Chinese friends to see his works at the art exhibition and wished "GDToday Salon: An Encounter Marco Polo" a great success.
