Hong Kong Chamber of Shipping ("HKCoS") celebrated its establishment with a launch reception held on October 7th.
C Y Leung, Vice-Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, also the founder member and advisor of HKCoS, responded to media questions on whether the development of Hong Kong as an international shipping center will replace London.
Leung shared, "We are not saying that Hong Kong will become another London, but we have to make a start. At the same time, you have to appreciate the attributes that Hong Kong has which London doesn't."
He emphasised, the practice of the "One Country, Two Systems" principle constitutes a strength of the whole of China and presents at the same time a unique opportunity for Hong Kong's shipping industry.
