Beidi, a village named after a temple, nestled in the southern of Nantou Town, Zhongshan, where the river network is dense.
In the late Qing Dynasty, villagers migrated from Shunde to the local area. To pray for water control and prosperity, they built the Beidi Temple. As one of the temple fair activities, the tradition of Lamp Liquor emerged.
Making lamps, lighting lamps, hanging lamps, praying by lamps, bidding lamps, and drinking lamp liquor, this series of activities is rigorous and comprehensive. The lamp liquor feast has become a totem imprinted in the hearts of the people of Beidi.
In recent years, the Lamp Liquor customs have spawned a series of new activities, attracting enterprises and tourists from out of the village. The traditional folk customs of nearly 200 years have lasting charms.
