“Shuttle buses” that solve people’s concerns | China’s Democracy: No one left behind ②

With a population of 80 thousand, Jiangxia Village is a rare large-scale urban village in Guangzhou that has a subway station nearby. This type of village is known as “Cheng Zhong Cun (城中村)” in Chinese, referring to communities that have become part of cities as China urbanizes.

In Jiangxia, the roads are narrow so shuttle buses have been an important transportation for residents to take from their home to the Jiangxia subway station. However, shuttle buses here work much more than transportation.

Covering multiple groups of the community, these buses become the perfect communication stations between the public and the deputies to the People's Congress. Qiu Mingdun, Deputy to the Baiyun District People's Congress and Director of the People's Congress Working Committee of Huangshi Street in Jiangxia, has been working on the buses and collecting people's advice from time to time.

This special way of work helps them provide better services and urban management. The People's Congress Working Committee of Huangshi Street collected 510 pieces of public opinions and suggestions, and promoted 502 problems solved(promote 在这里是指什么呢?), meaning the resolution rate hits 98.43 percent.

They understood people's demand for more parking lots and built a multistorey parking garage with limited use of space. They organized a matching event between 8 banks and more than 50 enterprises, which helped local enterprises raise more than 300 million RMB. They took the parents' advice and helped provide students with cooking and housekeeping courses at school...

“We hired 128 liaison officers from all walks of life and paired them with 16 deputies to the People's Congress so that we could connect with the public and learn about the challenges they faced in a more timely manner,” said Qiu Mingdun.
