Orchid-themed activities held to welcome Canton Fair visitors

As the 133rd Canton Fair is fast approaching and the orchids are in full bloom in Guangzhou, the city's Yuexiu District has launched an Orchid Culture, Tourism and Art Week to welcome visitors at home and abroad from April 9 to 16.

Hundreds of orchid-themed activities are being held in Guangzhou Orchid Garden, Liuhua Exhibition and Trade Center, Yuexiu International Conference Center and the surrounding areas.

More than 100 kinds of orchids and multiple sets of large orchid art installations are on display. In addition, a series of performances will be put on the stage, including instrumental performance, Cantonese Opera and pop song.

Tourists can also enjoy the orchid photography contest, taste orchid-made foods, participate in social events, and learn about Lingnan intangible cultural heritages. During the week, tourists with "Lan (兰)" in their names and wearing traditional Chinese costumes can make free appointments to visit Guangzhou Orchid Garden.

The organizer has also created a fashion fair to showcase intangible cultural heritages such as rice-paper painting, Lingnan Guqin, olive carving, and paper cuttings. Tourists, therefore, can touch and learn these traditional skills at close range.

In addition, the Georgian “Belt and Road” Business Pavilion has also been stationed in the fair, bringing Georgian hand-painted floral pottery wine, Iranian mina, Indian hand-embroidered shawls, Nepalese scented candles and other exotic products.

"We welcome friends from all over the world to Yuexiu and enjoy orchids and gorgeous scenery together in spring," a local official said.
