The Changbai Mountains, a popular tourism destination in Jilin Province, Northeast China, is one of the three major regions of enjoying snow scenes in the world, along with the Alps in Europe and the Rocky Mountains in North America. Its unparalleled natural assets have made it an alluring spot for tourists and skiers worldwide.
1.Create a cloud of ice crystals in mid-air
Temperatures in Changbai Mountains can reach minus 40 degrees Celsius in winter. When people pour boiling water over their heads, the water will instantly turn into a huge cloud of ice crystals. Many tourists hope to try this stunt and take stunning photos.
It should be noted that one person can toss up to 200 ml of hot water at a time, and the water temperature is about 100 degrees Celsius. Tourists can use their right hand to draw a large circle on the right side of their body to prevent hot water from dropping straight down and burning their head. The best time to splash water is in the morning, when the temperature is lower.
The spectacular frosty mist, as shown in the photo by successful challengers, is tempting to try, but be very careful. A toss of hot water can easily end up back on your face or on others' faces, whether by accident or simply as a prank. People could also risk suffering frostbite with sprayed water rapidly freezing on their exposed skin.

2.Go river-rafting in winter
Most people enjoy drifting down mountains and experiencing the refreshing splashes during a hot summer. However, winter rafting offers a unique experience.
Located in the Lushuihe National Forest Park (露水河国家森林公园) of Changbai Mountains, there is a one-kilometer long rafting river. On both sides of the river, there are ancient forests covered in thick snow. In winter, the forest transforms into a fairyland with a layer of rime. Rafting here not only helps people relax, but also satisfies their thirst for adventure.
Before starting the rafting activity, tourists are required to wear waterproof jumpsuits and life jackets to prevent their clothes from getting wet in the icy water.
Ticket: About 200 RMB per person

3.Warm up at outdoor hot spring resorts
Nothing makes a better getaway than a warm spring bath during the frosty season. With the outdoor temperatures dropping as low as minus 30 degrees Celsius, one simply can't resist the temptation of hot springs.
There are a great number of hot spring ponds scattered around the Changbai Mountain area. Tourists can endure a brief chill after changing into their bathing suits, then jump into the hot spring pool and enjoy the warm spring water. After 10 minutes, people's hair will turn white, because the moisture on their hair has frozen. It was an amazing experience to soak in the 40-degree spring water while touching the icy snow next to the pool. Some kids will put a handful of snow into the hot spring, watching it disappear in the water.
Ticket: About 200 RMB per person
Note: Tickets can be booked online or at hotels nearby.
