Ideal ancient villages to enjoy spring outings in Guangzhou

Qingming Festival, also known as Taqing (踏青, meaning spring outings) Festival, falls on April 5 this year. Where do you plan to visit for an outing during this upcoming festival? In Guangzhou, several ancient villages have become popular destinations for rural tours. Here are some recommended places for you to enjoy a pleasant getaway and to experience the ancient charm of Guangzhou!

Pantang Village (泮塘村)

Located in a lake park in Liwan District, Pantang village has a history of over 900 years. The Pantangwuyue historical community here is a living museum that retains the complete rural layout of Qing Dynasty's architecture.

Since 2017, Guangzhou has been implementing a project for the restoration of this village. Artists, musicians and craftsmen have settled here and added new strokes of color to the area's vibrant history.

Daling Village (大岭村)

Situated in Panyu District, Dali Village was founded in the Northern Song Dynasty with a history of more than 900 years, and it is listed as one of China's historic and cultural villages. There are 112 old buildings from different periods, such as the Ming and Qing dynasties, as well as the Republic of China era.

Longjin Bridge, oyster shell houses, ancient pagodas and ancestral halls... People can feel the history and culture of the Lingnan region here.

Langtou Village (塱头村)

Langtou Village in Huadu District is a national 3A-level scenic spot and one of China's historic and cultural villages. With a history of over 600 years, the village is famous for its variety of ancient buildings, as well as the large scale of preserved architecture of the Ming and Qing dynasties.

Tourists can visit the ancestral halls, academies, forts and memorial archways, and learn about the local history at the folk culture hall in the village.

Lianma Village (莲麻村)

Lianma is a mountainous village in Lütian town, Conghua District, which was initially built in the Qing Dynasty. Located at the northernmost tip of Guangzhou, the village features its surrounding verdant hills, various historical sites and the northern source of the Liuxi River. You can taste their locally-produced wines, visit their wine cellars and participate in making wine yourself.
