Being a tradition of the Spring Festival, the Lion dance is now being performed in King Mui Village. Located in Jiangmen city of Guangdong, the village is the hometown of the founder of Choy LI Fut, one of the 3 most well-known Chinese Kung Fu styles, along with Wing Chun and Hung Gar, and is now famous for martial arts training.
Lion dance incorporates various Kung Fu derived stances, kicks and other footwork in its routines. It’s believed that the performance could chase away evil spirits and bring people joy and good luck at this special occasion.
Choy LI Fut was founded in 1836 by Chan Heung who was born in King Mui, and has been spread throughout the globe, with schools in more than 70 countries and regions as Chan Heung then visited Hong Kong, southeast Asia and the US. It shows a special history of Jiangmen which is the ancestral homeland of approximately 4 million overseas Chinese, who now live in 107 countries and regions throughout the world.
