If you follow Shenzhen Bay Highway all the way to the west, you will see a pure white lighthouse. That tells you have arrived at Shenzhen's Shekou. As a microcosm of reform and opening up, it is a pleasant place to live and work. For people who want to visit Shenzhen during the May Day holiday, Shekou will be a great choice to find the city's distinctive beauty.
A very long coastline
Walking along the long coastline, visitors can see idle clouds sailing across the sky, and the passing breeze leaving its coolness upon people. On the beach, children play in the shade of trees and parents enjoy a relaxing day with books and music.
Vast arrays of small shops and seafoods
When you come out of the Dongjiaotou metro station (东角头站) on Line 2 and wander around, you will find a wide range of small stores lining the streets. Shekou Market is the most representative local market, and is adjacent to Shekou Fishing Port. The superior location makes the seafood sold here fresh and cheap, attracting lots of foodies.
Time-honored Sihai Park (四海公园)
As the earliest park in Shekou, Sihai Park has carried the precious memories of several generations of people living in Shekou. It has been hailed as the "heart of Shekou" and the "spiritual home" of local people. In the 1990s, many young people would sing free karaoke in the park. After extensive renovation, the park now has become a good place for public entertainment.
