"The orders have increased again, and we have to add more moulds!" Liu Ming, project manager of Dongguan Zhongsheng Silicone Rubber Products Co., Ltd., said on February 9. According to him, the factory has received orders for more than 400,000 outer shells of Bing Dwen Dwen.
As the mascot for the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games, Bing Dwen Dwen has recently become a huge hit. The manufacturer in Dongguan, Guangdong province has increased production of the mascot to ensure adequate supply for the market.
The manufacturing process of a Bing Dwen Dwen includes the production of silicone shells and inner plush dolls. After finishing the shells, the Dongguan factory will send them to the plush doll factories in Fujian province for assembly. Then the mascots will be distributed to retailers, and finally sold to customers.
Liu introduced that an accurate, clean and polished mould is necessary for large-scale production of Bing Dwen Dwen's ice crystal shells. They have to be very careful when they demould and add the Olympic rings and colorful ribbons onto the shell.
At present, the Dongguan Zhongsheng factory has planned to prepare 80 new moulds in addition to its original production capacity. Over the next 10 days, the factory will produce more than 30,000 shells per day.
As a global manufacturing city, Dongguan has been deeply involved in the production of Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games mascot products. Most badges, key chains, fridge magnets, plush toys and other exquisite souvenirs of the games are made by Dongguan companies. Now these factories are quickly resuming operations after the Chinese New Year holiday to meet the surging demand for the popular peripheral products.
