3000 ㎡ cornfield hidden in Shenzhen CBD

Recently, a 3,000-square-meter cornfield in the south of Shenzhen Civic Center and has grabbed the attention of the locals. Piles of yellow-green ears of corn and wavy leaves twist together. Many residents can't help asking curiously: when will this corn mature? Do we have a chance to try them?

Many white-collar workers who work in the city center like to wander by the cornfield at lunch break time. Some posted photos of the cornfield on their social media accounts, recording the scene of the coexistence of skyscrapers and farmland in downtown Shenzhen.

Some others look at high-rise buildings and busy traffic in the distance, then look round at this cornfield and exclaimed, "how romantic the city is!"

According to Shenzhen Agricultural Science Group, the corn is expected to be harvested early next month.

After the corn is mature, the Group will organize volunteers and residents, especially families with elementary school students, for a harvest gathering.

The spokesman of the Group said that in highly urbanized Shenzhen, there are few agricultural practitioners, and children who grow up in the city have little understanding of agriculture. Compared with parks and woods, planting crops can not only green the environment, but also provide an opportunity for the residents to get close to nature.

In the future, more seasonal crops will be planted in this area, such as sugarcane, wheat, and soybeans.
