The 7th China International Import Expo (CIIE) will kick off on November 5, bringing together global businesses and showcasing China's open market while facilitating international cooperation. On the eve of the event, the Department of Commerce of Guangdong Province held a cooperation and exchange meeting with multinational companies in Shanghai to showcase the development potential and investment opportunities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
As the Deputy Director of the Department of Commerce of Guangdong Province, Zhu Xiaojun highlighted in his welcoming speech that since the reform and opening-up, Guangdong has attracted 333,000 foreign-invested enterprises, with actual foreign investment approaching $600 billion, reflecting the trust that these companies have placed in the province.
During the conference, representatives from Hengqin, Qianhai, Nansha, and Hetao— Guangdong's four major cooperation platforms—introduced their investment environments and policies.
Executives from leading multinational companies, including DuPont and Veolia, shared their positive experiences in Guangdong. Chen Zhidong, general manager of DuPont China, expressed confidence in the province's supportive business environment, noting the successful expansion of their Dongguan facility. Meanwhile, Zhang Xiaobo, the strategy and corporate affairs manager of Veolia China, highlighted plans to deepen their operations in Guangdong, particularly in sustainability sectors like lithium battery and plastic recycling.
During the CIIE, the Department of Commerce of Guangdong is set to organize at least 25 investment promotion activities, visiting over 500 domestic and international companies. Additionally, Guangdong will hold three industry promotion meetings focused on sectors like bio-medicine, alongside 23 specialized investment attraction activities delivered by representatives from 15 cities within the province.
As the world's first national-level expo focused on imports, the CIIE provides a platform for global companies to showcase their products and services to the Chinese market and underscores the country's commitment to high-level opening-up and international partnership.
This year, enthusiasm among Guangdong companies is at an all-time high, with a record 3,090 enterprises participating. In the exhibition area, Guangdong has established a Cultural Exchange Pavilion, covering 450 square meters, showcasing 30 brands among the China Time-Honored Brands list from the region, reflecting a rich cultural heritage across four domains: cultural arts, healthcare, handicrafts, and traditional cuisine. Nansha District brings 20 quality enterprises to highlight its import base and trade environment, while Huangpu District features 14 companies, including Xpeng and EHang, emphasizing its business environment and innovation capabilities.
