On March 29, Dongguan Cross-border E-commerce Digital Trade High-quality Development Event was held in Dongguan, jointly organized by the Dongguan Municipal Bureau of Commerce, Songshan Lake Management Committee, and Huawei Cloud Computing Technology Co., Ltd. During the event, the Huawei (Dongguan) Cross-border E-commerce Integrated Service Innovation Center was officially unveiled.

The Cross-border E-commerce Demonstration Project in Dongguan was initiated in September, 2023 and has already made significant progress during the construction phase.

Under the cooperation agreement, the Dongguan Municipal Bureau of Commerce and Huawei will collaborate to leverage Huawei's capabilities in empowering Dongguan's manufacturing industry, establishing a benchmark for cross-border e-commerce, nurturing industry ecosystems, and accelerating talent development. The partnership aims to enhance the clustering effect and leadership role of the cross-border industries within Dongguan, facilitating the high-quality development of the city's cross-border e-commerce industry.

"After the official launch of the Huawei (Dongguan) Cross-border E-commerce Integrated Service Innovation Center, Huawei will fully utilize our resource advantages to provide precise services to businesses in terms of technology support, business operations, talent cultivation, ecosystem development, and brand building. Through our digital capabilities, we aim to make businesses more agile and provide higher quality services," said Xu Weixing, General Manager of Huawei Cloud Guangdong, highlighting Huawei's technological strength and extensive service experience as a global leading ICT comprehensive service provider in the field of digital trade.

Cross-border e-commerce, as a new form and model of international trade, plays an increasingly important role in promoting high-quality foreign trade development and consumer upgrading.

Despite the external and internal challenges faced by a variety of industries in recent years, such as geopolitical conflicts and the COVID-19 pandemic, cross-border e-commerce has experienced remarkable growth and is considered a new opportunity for China's foreign trade development.

Dongguan is one of the most significant sources of goods for e-commerce in Guangdong Province and the entire country, with a complete manufacturing system that manufactures over 60,000 types of products spanning 34 industries.

Data reveals that since Dongguan was approved as one of the third batch of national pilot zones for cross-border e-commerce in 2018, the import and export volume of cross-border e-commerce has increased from 37.01 billion yuan in 2018 to 90.72 billion yuan in 2023, with an average annual growth rate of 19.64 percent. From 2018 to present, the cumulative import and export volume of cross-border e-commerce in Dongguan has reached approximately 374 billion yuan.

In 2023, Dongguan's cross-border e-commerce import and export volume reached 90.72 billion yuan, a year-on-year growth of 10.8 percent, ranking fourth in the province. In the first two months of 2024, Dongguan's cross-border direct purchase exports and cross-border e-commerce exports from overseas warehouses increased by 71.3 percent and 396.4 percent, respectively, contributing to a combined 4.2 percent increase in export growth rate.

According to Xing Wenju, Vice Mayor of Dongguan, the city is one of the most significant sources of goods for e-commerce in Guangdong Province and even the entire country. “Cross-border e-commerce, as a new format and model of international trade, has become a new driving force for Dongguan's foreign trade development, a new channel for transformation and upgrading, and a new catalyst for high-quality development,” stated Xing.
