Digital RMB firstly used in Guangdong's hospital

On May 5, Huifu Branch of Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital became the first hospital in Guangdong to start usage of digital Chinese RMB for medical expense payment, both online and offline.

Since March 31 this year, Guangzhou has become a pilot city for digital yuan.

To use the digital currency in the Hospital, users can download the e-CNY app and scan the QR code to finish payment. The app background resembles the right half of the 100-yuan banknote and the wallet balance will change after the payment. Transfers can be made even when the app isn’t connected to the Internet.

Also, patients can pay their medical bills with digital yuan in the WeChat official account of the hospital (“广东省人民医院”官方微信公众号 ) and its 5G online hospital.

According to the Hospital, promoting digital yuan is another innovative attempt to speed up digitalization. The application of digital RMB in medical institutions gives the public more options for payment, makes the transfer safer, and bridges the digital gap for senior residents. Next, the Hospital will make exploratory steps to further promote the use of digital Chinese yuan in various scenarios.
