Guangdong will seize the opportunity of the development of the Guangdong-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, and deepen the cooperation with Macao, said Li Xi, the secretary of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), when meeting with Ho Iat Seng, the Chief Executive of Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR), after a cooperation meeting with Macao held in Guangzhou on June 10.
On behalf of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee and the Guangdong Provincial Government, Li extended his thanks to Macao for fully supporting the social and economic development of Guangdong.
Li hoped that Guangdong and Macao will continue to closely cooperate in promoting high-quality development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) and of the Hengqin Cooperation Zone.
He also hoped Guangdong and Macao will enhance joint pandemic prevention and control. To further cooperation in traditional Chinese medicine research and development, modern financial services, high-end manufacturing and other sectors. These are all in order to achieve greater success in high-level cooperation between Guangdong and Macao and make contributions to the successful practice of the "one country, two systems" principle.
Ho Iat Seng expressed his gratitude to Guangdong for its long-term support, he said that Macao is maintaining its overall stability, and has made considerable achievements regarding effective pandemic prevention and control. He was confident of seeing Macao's gradual economic recovery by the second half of this year.
Ho hoped that Guangdong and Macao will continue enhancing cooperation, to make use of the advantages of the "one country, two systems" principle, and actively implement all policies and measures such as taxation and customs clearance for the development of the Hengqin Cooperation Zone.
Under the pandemic prevention and control, it will further facilitate customs clearance and trade ties between the two places to promote economic development. This will deepen Guangdong-Macao cooperation in various fields including cross-boundary transportation and personnel training exchanges.
Wang Weizhong, governor of Guangdong Province, said that Guangdong will accelerate the implementation of major innovative policies, and preferential measures related to personal income tax and corporate income tax.
Guangdong will also enhance investment promotion with Macao, and develop a new batch of major innovative projects and industries, to facilitate Macao's adequate economic diversification. The province will actively promote talent exchanges and collaboration, and explore the development of civil service training and exchange mechanisms, to support human resources for the development of the Hengqin Cooperation Zone, Wang added.
Also, Guangdong will expedite arrangements regarding the entry of Macao-registered vehicles to the Chinese mainland, and establish a perfect mechanism for cross-boundary transportation. Other cooperation will mainly cover financial services, education, innovation and entrepreneurship matters, in order to promote social and economic development, and to improve people's livelihoods in Guangdong and Macao.
