High-speed railway projects on steady track, further connecting GBA cities

In 2024, a number of infrastructure projects in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) will enter the final construction stage, accelerating the building of “GBA on the Rail”.

Here are the details:

Guangzhou-Zhanjiang High-speed Railway

During the Chinese Spring Festival, the Guangzhou-Foshan section of the Guangzhou-Zhanjiang high-speed railway project was still under construction.

This section, with a total length of 24.3 kilometers, passes through Yuexiu District and Liwan District in Guangzhou, and Nanhai District and Chancheng District in Foshan.

The Guangzhou-Zhanjiang high-speed railway stretches 401 kilometers, starting from Guangzhou Railway Station, passing through cities including Foshan, Zhaoqing, Yunfu, Yangjiang, and Maoming, before terminating at Zhanjiang North Railway Station.

With a design speed of 350 km/h, the railway will reduce the travel time between Guangzhou and Zhanjiang from three hours to just one and a half hours.

Shenzhen-Jiangmen High-speed Railway

The tunnel project at the Pearl River Estuary, a key project of the Shenzhen-Jiangmen high-speed railway, also advanced steadily during the holiday.

The full tunnel is about 13.69 kilometers long, with 7.103 kilometers completed so far.

The Shenzhen-Jiangmen high-speed railway, with a total length of 116.12 kilometers and a design speed of 250 km/h, starts from Xili Station in Shenzhen and ends at Jiangmen Station of the Jiangmen-Zhanjiang Railway, passing through cities including Dongguan, Guangzhou, Zhongshan, and Jiangmen.

It is expected to be open to traffic in 2028, reducing the travel time for a single trip to just one hour.

Meizhou-Longchuan High-speed Railway

On February 15, work on the ballastless track of the Meizhou-Longchuan high-speed railway was expedited with workers on-site working around the clock.

As of February 16, 83.3 percent of the construction was completed. Starting in July 2020, the railway is expected to start operations in 2024.

With a designed speed of 350 km/h, the high-speed rail starts from Meizhou West Railway Station of the Meizhou-Shantou high-speed railway, passing through Meixian District, Xingning City, and Wuhua County in Meizhou, and Longchuan County in Heyuan before terminating at Longchuan West Station, an interchange station with the Ganzhou-Shenzhen high-speed railway.

Upon completion, the Meizhou-Longchuan high-speed railway will connect with the Ganzhou-Shenzhen high-speed railway and the Meizhou-Shantou high-speed railway, reducing travel time to 90 minutes at most from Meizhou to Guangzhou and Shenzhen.
