2,940 China-Europe freight trains departed from the GBA in the past decade

On October 19, the China-Europe freight train X8426 departed from Pinghu South logistics park in Shenzhen, and will arrive in Vorsino, Russia in 15 days.

It is loaded with 110 standard containers, carrying household appliances like electric grills, water heaters, and electric cookers.

According to the statistics, China Railway Guangzhou Group Co., Ltd. (CR Guangzhou) launched a total of 5,442 China-Europe freight trains, including 2,940 departing from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) over the past decade (as of September 2023).

At present, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Dongguan are steadily running China-Europe freight trains to Europe, 5 Central Asia countries, South Asia and Southeast Asia. The freight trains can reach more than 100 cities in 24 European countries and cover the entire Eurasia via the Manzhouli, Erlianhot, Khorgo, and Alashankou ports.

The first China-Europe freight train departed from Pinghu South Railway Station on August 18, 2020. So far, more than 500 trips have been made with an export value of 1.6 billion USD. The opening of China-Europe freight trains has helped Shenzhen further tap into the market in Russia, Central Asia and Europe.

In early July this year, the first China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan (CKU) international multimodal freight train was launched, providing a new and convenient logistics channel between the GBA and Central Asia. So far, there are 18 China-Europe freight train lines in the GBA, accounting for 20 percent of the total routes in the country.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), and over the past 10 years, CR Guangzhou has made all-out efforts to build a highly efficient modern logistics system. Seven logistics parks were opened including Datian, Zengcheng West in Guangzhou and Pinghu South in Shenzhen.

The China-Europe freight trains have become an important channel for the trade between the GBA and BRI countries, injecting new vitality and impetus into the economic development of GBA.
