Huangmao Sea Channel Bridge: first steel box girder installed

On August 11, the first steel box girder on the west tower of the Huangmao Sea Channel Bridge was cast in place.

As one of the two main bridges of Huangmao Sea Channel Project, the Huangmao Sea Channel Bridge is expected to be the world's largest three-tower cable-stayed bridge in terms of span (2×720 meters).

The Bridge has a total of 16 types of beams, 149 beam segments, with a total engineering volume of about 60,000 tons.

The first steel box girder hoisted this time is 22.5 meters long, 19.7 meters wide, 4 meters high and weighs about 355 tons. To cast it in place is equivalent to hoisting 35 adult African elephants to a height of more than 60 meters.

So far, the five main towers of the Huangmao Sea Channel Bridge and Gaolan Port Bridge have been capped and the first steel box girder has been completed in the east and west towers of the Gaolan Port Bridge.

In the next step, the Huangmao Sea Channel Project will steadily advance various constructions. The two main bridges are expected to be fully completed in April 2024 and the entire project is expected to be finished and open to traffic by the end of 2024. By then, the traveling time from Zhuhai to Jiangmen and western Guangdong will be shortened to about 30 minutes.
