China Southern to add 900 flights during May Day holiday

China Southern Airlines will add more than 900 flights from April 30 to May 6 to meet people’s travel demand during the upcoming May Day holiday.

A travel boom is expected across China during this year's May Day holiday. The visa-waiver Southeast Asian countries, including Thailand, Singapore, and Malaysia, will continue to be the hot tourist destinations for China.

The airlines will operate more than 1,000 flights to Southeast Asian countries during the May Day holiday. There are plans for more flights on the routes from Guangzhou to Bangkok, Phuket Island, Ho Chi Minh City, Nha Trang (Vietnam), and Manila.

There will be an average of 12 daily flights from Guangzhou to Bangkok, eight from Guangzhou to Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, and six from Guangzhou to Ho Chi Minh City, Phnom Penh, and Hanoi (the capital of Vietnam).

In terms of Japan and South Korea, the number of flights will reach about 400 during the holiday, covering major routes including Dalian, Shenyang, Shanghai, Guangzhou to Seoul, and Guangzhou and Shanghai to Tokyo and Osaka.

Additionally, Sydney, Melbourne, and Auckland will remain the top destinations in Australia and New Zealand.

China Southern Airlines will continue to strengthen connectivity with Belt and Road participating countries and regions. In April, it opened the Beijing Daxing-Riyadh route and the Guangzhou-Doha route.

Regarding domestic flights, the airlines will prioritize capacity at its dual hubs at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport and Beijing Daxing International Airport to facilitate passengers' travel during the holiday. During the holiday, Guangzhou Baiyun Airport will register an average of over 580 daily inbound and outbound flights, and Beijing Daxing Airport will have over 300.

More than 600 flights will be added on 42 domestic routes, including Dali, Lijiang, Nanchong, Yangzhou, Changde, and Guilin. To ease the traffic pressure caused by the May Day holiday travel and the return passenger flow of the Canton Fair, more wide-body aircraft will be used on flights from Guangzhou to Chengdu, Hangzhou, and Xi'an, adding nearly 30,000 average daily seats.
