On January 15, the Huangmao Sea Channel Bridge and the Gaolan Port Bridge, two main bridges of the Huangmao Sea Channel project, were connected as the last steel box girder was installed on the spot.
The approach bridge of the Huangmao Sea Channel is a 1600-meter steel box continuous span bridge. It consists of 32 large steel box girders, with the largest one measuring 123 meters in length, 18.75 meters in width, 4 meters in height, and weighing 1340 tons.
To enhance the accuracy of the steel box girder installation, the construction team of the Huangmao Sea Channel Project has adopted intelligent monitoring technology for the entire steel box girder construction and built a 3D Geographic Information System (GIS) platform integrating Building Information Modeling (BIM).
So far, five main towers and two tunnels of the Channel have been completed, while the construction of the upper structure is still underway.
As one of the key transportation projects in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), the Huangmao Sea Channel is expected to open to traffic by the end of 2024.
Stretching 31 kilometers across the Huangmao Sea water, the Channel will shorten the travel time from Zhuhai to Jiangmen and western Guangdong to about 30 minutes.
