Guangzhou-Shanwei High-Speed Railway starts joint testing

On July 10, the Guangzhou-Shanwei High-speed Railway started joint commissioning and testing, laying a solid foundation for the official opening by the end of this September.

By using an inspection train, the performance of various systems such as track, bridge, tunnel, power supply, overhead catenary system, communication, and signaling are tested and verified.

According to the project authorities, the joint commissioning and testing is expected to be completed by the end of August and the railway will begin trial operation afterwards.

The high-speed line starts from Xintang in Guangzhou, passes through Huizhou, Shenzhen-Shanwei Special Cooperation Zone and terminates at Shanwei, a southeastern coastal city in Guangdong.

With a design speed of 350 km per hour, the railway spanning 202 kilometers will cut the traveling time between Guangzhou and Shanwei from the current 2 hours to within 1 hour.

There are a total of eight stations, including Xintang, Zengcheng, Loufu Mountain, Boluo, Huizhou South, Huidong, Shenzhen-Shanwei Special Cooperation Zone and Shanwei.

The construction was launched in 2019. So far, 121 newly-built bridges and 53 tunnels have been finished.

As one of the province’s key projects, Guangzhou-Shanwei High-speed Railway is linked with Beijing-Guangzhou High-speed Railway, Guangzhou-Shenzhen Intercity Railway, Hangzhou-Shenzhen High-speed Railway, and Beijing-Hong Kong High-speed Railway, and more.

Furthermore, it is also an important link between city clusters in the Pearl River Delta and the Yangtze River Delta by being a sectional part of the Ningbo-Guangzhou High-speed Railway.

After being opened to traffic, it will facilitate the integration of cities along the route into the whole Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, promote their socioeconomic development as well as boost rural revitalization.
