On June 25, the opening ceremony of the ETC service site was held at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Zhuhai Port. This measure aims to further facilitate the northbound travel of vehicles from Hong Kong and Macao as well as improve the transportation service experience.
This year marks the first anniversary of the implementation of the "Northbound Travel for Hong Kong Vehicles" scheme, with an increasing number of inbound and outbound single-plate vehicles from Hong Kong and Macao passing through the Zhuhai Port. According to statistics from the border inspection station of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, as of June 10, the number of inbound and outbound single-plate vehicles from Hong Kong and Macao passing through the bridge this year has exceeded 2.652 million, with a monthly average increase of over 10 percent.
For ETC applications, in addition to providing mainland travel permits for Hong Kong and Macao residents and personal identification documents, there are slight differences in providing vehicle documents for Hong Kong and Macao vehicle owners. Specifically, Hong Kong vehicle owners need vehicle registration documents and temporary vehicle permits, while Macao vehicle owners need to provide vehicle ownership registration certificates, vehicle registration certificates, vehicle information certificates, and temporary entry licenses for motor vehicles.
Moreover, when applying for ETC on-site, Hong Kong and Macao vehicle owners not only need to provide the above-mentioned identification documents, but also need to scan the QR code via WeChat to log in to the "E-Service" mini-program to complete the activation and installation processes. If the car owner is not familiar with the steps, the staff can provide on-site guidance.
After the opening ceremony, the ETC service site at the port welcomed numerous Hong Kong and Macao vehicle owners. "It's quite convenient to apply for this, and you can also enjoy a 5 percent discount. For cars with less than seven seats, it used to cost 150 RMB to cross the bridge once, but now it can be reduced by 7.5 RMB each time,” said Mr. Lin from Hong Kong, "This measure greatly facilitates the application of ETC, saving us a lot of time and energy."
It is known that since the implementation of the "Northbound Travel for Hong Kong Vehicles" scheme, relevant entities in Zhuhai have been committed to providing more convenient and efficient transportation services for vehicles from Hong Kong and Macao. After a year of effort, under the guidance of the Department of Transport of Guangdong Province, ETC application service sites have been set up at all toll stations on highways throughout the province.
According to statistics, as of June 23, the number of ETC applications for single-plate vehicles in Hong Kong has reached 37,177, and in Macao, it has amounted to 9,110. In addition, the number of ETC applications for dual-plate vehicles in Hong Kong and Macao is 59,962 and 1,454, respectively.
