According to the engineers, they have taken advantage of the Beidou system and other techniques to ensure the precision of the docking.

During the tunnel engineering, cutting-edge technologies were also used to limit the settlement of soft soil foundations to within 48 mm, setting a new world record.

Up to now, a total of 35 million cubic meters of sediments have been dredged up as the first step of tube installation, which can fill 14,000 standard swimming pools.

Around 320,000 tons of steel in total were used in the underwater tunnel, equaling three times the amount used in the “Bird’s Nest” Stadium. Also, nearly 90 cubic meters of self-compacting concrete were poured into the tube sections, with the density reaching the world-class level.

The tunnel is expected to be finished in November 2023. Next, the artificial island project will be carried out as scheduled, with the engineering of several fields in full swing, as part of the efforts to open the Link to traffic in 2024.
