The holiday seasons of Labour Day, National Day, and Mid-Autumn Festival in 2023 saw passenger numbers more than double compared to the same periods in 2022. Hengqin Port has been actively promoting equal access to public transport services for its residents and the diversification of its land-to-island transportation. From a small port with less than 100,000 annual passengers in 2018, it has evolved into a crucial maritime hub, serving over 850,000 passengers annually.
In 2023, Hengqin Port's reach further expanded with the introduction of a new route to Shenzhen Airport. In 2024, the upgrading of the port's fixed berths is set to commence, aiming to enhance berth infrastructure, increase capacity, and facilitate the expansion of new routes.
