Shiziyang Tunnel | World's largest bridge anchor foundation set in concrete

On February 27, the construction of the west anchor foundation was completed at Shiziyang Tunnel, marking another significant milestone following the completion of the east anchor foundation in early February.

The west anchor foundation will act as the main tension structure of the entire bridge. Among all the ongoing projects, it is the largest of its kind in the world.

The Shiziyang Tunnel is another mega project in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, following the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge and the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link. With a main span of 2,180 meters, the Shiziyang Bridge is a double steel truss suspension bridge.

The bridge is expected to open to traffic in 2028. By then, it will break five world records in terms of the main span, main tower height, anchor foundation, scale of the main cable, and number of lanes.

According to the project authorities, the construction of Shiziyang Tunnel has been steadily advancing so far. The workers are currently building the bearing platform of the main towers and will subsequently move on to build the pillars of the main tower in the next stage.

Stretching across the Pearl River estuary, Shiziyang Tunnel starts from Nansha district in Guangzhou and ends at Humen Town in Dongguan. It has eight two-way lanes, with a total length of 35 kilometers and a designed speed of 100 km/h.
