As revealed by Guangzhou Automobile Group AION (GAC Aion) on January 31, the construction of its first overseas production site in Thailand has recently been initiated, with a substantial investment of 2.3 billion Thai Baht (approximately RMB 465 million). The plant will be built in two phases, aiming for an annual production capacity of 50,000 vehicles. Phase one is set to conclude by July 2024.
Established in 2017 as Guangzhou Automobile Group's subsidiary focusing on new energy vehicles, GAC AION identified Thailand as its inaugural international venture in September 2023.
GAC Aion, currently operating 34 outlets in Thailand, plans to double its presence to 70 by the end of 2024. The company experienced a robust 77 percent year-on-year increase in vehicle sales, reaching 480,003 units in 2023. In tandem with its expansion, GAC Aion aims to establish an international talent pool based on its Thai operations, a strategic move toward achieving its ambitious target of one million sales by 2025.
