Thai airport launches green initiative with GAC Aion electric taxi

The Airports of Thailand (AOT), an airport management company, has introduced electric taxis provided by GAC Aion at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok, marking a significant step towards establishing Thailand's first green airport and fostering a low-carbon society.

With 18 chargers installed at Zone E long-term parking area, including 16 with 40 kW output and two with 150 kW, the initiative aims to combat carbon emissions in the transport sector. It can potentially reduce over 50 million tons of CO2 annually by transitioning airport vehicles to electric.

In 2023, GAC Aion collaborated with the Thai government to introduce a thousand units of its flagship electric vehicles into the Thai taxi market. GAC Aion is also partnering with both the Thai government and private entities to invest ¥2 billion (approximately $314 million USD) across Thailand, establishing 180 fast-charging stations as crucial infrastructure to support electric taxis.

AOT is also spearheading clean energy adoption with plans for 12 chargers supporting shuttle buses and agency-owned vehicles, featuring 10 with 360 kW and two with 150 kW.
