On June 13, the Guangdong Sihui Orchid Cultural Week raised its curtain in Guangzhou's Orchid Garden.
The theme of the event is "fatherly love is like the orchid". In traditional Chinese culture, orchids are known as "gentlemen among flowers". They are long-lived and have a delicate fragrance, similar to the strong and profound fatherly love.
Sihui, a county-level city in Guangdong's Zhaoqing, boasts the largest orchid plantation base within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. As of now, the orchid cultivation in Sihui has reached about 666 hectares, with more than 230 varieties such as cymbidium ensifolium, cymbidium sinense and butterfly orchid.

Over 100 pots of Sihui orchids will be in display during the cultural week. Tourists can also appreciate the picture of a special butterfly orchid named Monkey King, whose shape is like the armored Monkey King in Journey to the West, one of the four classics of Chinese literature, symbolizing the omnipotent fatherly love.

The cultural week will last until June 19. On Father's Day, which falls on June 18 this year, musical performances combining Chinese and western musical instruments, Chinese traditional dancing, and an exhibition of orchid calligraphy and painting, will be staged for visitors.
About the Orchid Garden
Located at Guangzhou's Yuexiu District, the Orchid Garden is the only Lingnan-style garden where visitors can gain knowledge about orchid cultivation while appreciating more than 200 varieties of orchids.

Ticket price: 8 RMB. Students and visitors aged between 60-64 can enjoy a 50 percent-off discount. Visitors aged 65 and older can receive free admission.
