Guangdong and Queensland celebrate 15 years of friendship

The"Night of Queensland" was held in Guangzhou on June 27 to celebrate 15 years of friendship between Queensland & Guangdong. Officials and enterprise representatives from Queensland and Guangdong attended the event.

Angela Shi, A/commissioner of Trade + Investment Queensland (TIQ) China, said that Queensland and Guangdong have had in-depth cooperation in trade and investment, education, health and elderly care, science and innovation, and culture and tourism over the last 15 years. TIQ has been assisting Queensland enterprises to further cooperate with their Guangdong counterparts.

Cang Feng, Deputy Director General of the Guangdong Foreign Affair Office (FAO), said Queensland has beautiful scenery and attracts many Guangdong tourists. Queensland and Guangdong have complementary advantages and enjoy broad prospects for cooperation. He also highlighted opportunities in Hengqin, Qianhai, and Nansha.

Sophie Smith, Deputy Consul-General of Australia in Guangzhou, said that Queensland and Guangdong’s partnership is a testament to Australia and China. The two sides will have more cultural and business exchanges with the resumption of direct flights between Brisbane and Guangzhou.

Queensland is located in the northeast of Australia, with a population of about 5.24 million, ranking third in Australia. The state covers an area of 1.72 million square kilometers, making it the second-largest state in Australia. Queensland is known as the “Sunshine State” for its weather, mineral resources, fresh fruits and vegetables.

Guangdong and Queensland started a friendly relationship in August 2008 and maintain partnerships in such fields as economy and trade, agriculture, tourism, education and training, and high technology, which have contributed to the economic growth of both sides.

Guangdong and Queensland have established four pairs of friendly cities, including Shenzhen and Brisbane, Zhanjiang and Cairns, Foshan and Townsville, and Zhuhai and the Gold Coast.
