Jiraporn Sudanich, Consul General of the Kingdom of Thailand in Guangzhou, addressed the reception, stating that 2023 is another fruitful year for China-Thailand relations. One of the highlights is the 50th visit of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand to China in June. During her trip, Princess Sirindhorn visited Guangdong and observed the progress of the scientific project in which Thai institutes collaborated with the Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JNUO).

"There were more high-level visits, as Guangdong Governor Wang Weizhong paid an official visit to Thailand in June to build on the progress made between the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) and Thailand's East Economic Corridor (EEC), which has already welcomed Guangdong's EV makers BYD and AION," said Sudanich.

Sudanich added that there is an increasing number of Chinese tourists visiting Thailand this year, while the number of Thai students in Guangdong is gradually returning to the pre-Covid-19 level. Thailand has also seen a rising number of Chinese students from Guangdong coming to study in the Kingdom. The Consulate also introduced the Creative Thailand project to promote Thailand's fast-growing creative industry, which was well received by the Chinese audiences.

Li Xin, Vice Chairman of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, extended her festive greetings and best wishes to all the Thai friends working, studying, and living in Guangdong on behalf of the Guangdong people, saying that China and Thailand are close neighbors with a friendship that extends for a thousand years, and the people of the two countries love one another like brothers and sisters.

"As China's biggest economic powerhouse and a pivotal bridge connecting with ASEAN nations, Guangdong Province has long enjoyed frequent and productive cooperation and exchanges with Thailand. In 2022, the trade volume between Guangdong and Thailand stood at 220.2 billion RMB, accounting for one-fourth of China's total trade with Thailand," said Li.

Li said Guangdong will take the opportunity of RCEP and is ready to work with Thai counterparts by leveraging the important platform of the China (Guangdong)-Thailand High-level Cooperation Conference, focusing on the development strategies between the GBA and EEC, and vigorously promoting practical cooperation in various spheres such as trade and investment, science and innovation, vocational education, health and TCM, culture, and tourism.
