Since its operation on May 20, the Baiqiao Service Area on the Baotou-Maoming Expressway has become a new must-visit spot in Maoming, known as the "Hometown of Lychees" in China. Driven by its lychee promotion events, Maoming's popularity has continued to grow, especially during the Dragon Boat Festival holiday, when the daily traffic flow topped 18,000 vehicles and the number of visitors reached 90,000.
An aerial snapshot of the west part of the highway service area captured dense traffic and crowds on May 31, the first day of the festival.
Road administration volunteers assisted lychee farmers with sales at the area.
Uncle Zhang, a lychee farmer from Genzi Town, Gaozhou, Maoming, said that the 250 kilograms of lychees he transported were snapped up in just 2 hours at the service area.
During the first day of the holiday, the Baiqiao Service Area facilitated nearly 4,000 kilograms of lychee sales and generated a revenue of approximately 90,000 yuan.
Tourist vehicles kept rolling into the service zone.
