According to the South China Sea Bureau of the Ministry of Natural Resources, since the end of November 2023, "Xiangyanghong 05" has completed two sea trials in December 2023 and February 2024 respectively. The South China Sea Survey Center of the Ministry of Natural Resources tested several instruments and equipment of the ship, preparing it for the subsequent oceanographic research.

With an overall length of 85.6 meters and a molded breadth of 16.4 meters, "Xiangyanghong 05" is a multipurpose oceanographic research vessel with an unlimited navigation area.

The South China Sea Survey Center, the main user of the ship, dispatched personnel from the Geology and Geophysics Division, Hydrology and Meteorology Division, Chemistry and Biology Division, and other specialized divisions to participate in the sea trials. They conducted performance tests on the ship's deep-water multibeam sounder, sub-bottom profiler, acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP), 10,000-meter geological winch, and CTD winch in the shallow and deep waters of the South China Sea respectively. The results and test data show that the instruments and equipment are in good condition and can fulfil oceanographic research.

"Xiangyanghong 05", which continues to use the hull number 05, has completed two sea trials. As a modernized multipurpose research vessel integrating multiple disciplines, functions and technologies, it has been ready to undertake new oceanographic research. The South China Sea Survey Center will make good use of this advanced ship to carry out more deep-sea geophysical exploration and seafloor sampling.
