Guangdong in South China has emphasized the importance of sci-tech development as part of its ongoing work on the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). This includes the formulation of overall development plans for sci-tech centers, the establishment of testing platforms to enhance industrial innovation capacity, the creation of industrial clusters, and the improvement of the business environment.

This announcement was made during the inaugural ceremony for an exploration tour to observe the province's solution for new productive forces on May 14. Over 100 representatives from 21 national and local media outlets embarked on the journey in Guangzhou, spending a week touring several mainland GBA cities, including Shenzhen and Zhuhai.

Guangdong has focused on the development of three major science cities: Guangming district in Shenzhen, Nansha district in Guangzhou, and Songshan Lake in Dongguan. In recent years, efforts have been made to establish a sci-tech innovation network based on two points: Hetao, connecting Hong Kong and Shenzhen, and Hengqin, linking Macao and Zhuhai, as well as two corridors: Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong and Guangzhou-Zhuhai-Macao.

Significant scientific and technological infrastructure clusters, such as the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS), have been constructed and utilized to accelerate the transformation of sci-tech research and innovation and to support the development of relevant industries.

With regards to the scale and upgrading of industries, traditional sectors such as food and beverage, textile and garment, and household appliances have been upgraded through the application of digital technologies. Emerging industries, including integrated circuits, new energy vehicles, and new energy storage, have also seen expansion. Additionally, several future industrial pilot zones and proof-of-concept centers (POCC) are set to be established.

Guangdong has also established a number of pilot tests and certification platforms that focus on four key areas of innovation in the GBA: 5G technology, integrated circuits, nanotechnology, and biotechnology. These platforms provide public services to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), concerning production, equipment, and technical trials, to facilitate the transformation of high-tech into tangible outcomes in Guangdong.

Moving forward, Guangdong will deepen reforms in critical areas and continue to build a first-class international business environment that is market-oriented and based on the rule of law. This will further stimulate momentum and vitality to drive high-quality development.
