"I think Guangdong is a very good example in terms of offering innovation to deal with climate-related challenges," Bangladeshi Ambassador to China Md. Jashim Uddin told GDToday during the tour of Guangdong, which focused on the new energy industry and new productivity boosters.
Noting that Bangladesh is one of the most vulnerable countries to climate change in the world, he believed that the main purpose of this tour was to explore how Guangdong would offer innovative ways to address it.
He said that Bangladesh is a low-lying country, and if sea level rises, a significant portion of Bangladesh will be submerged. "Therefore, we always seek opportunities to see how we can address climate-related challenges."
Bangladesh has set a target to increase the percentage of green energy in the country's overall energy mix. According to The Daily Star, an English daily newspaper in Bangladesh, Bangladesh has set an ambitious goal of generating over 4,100 megawatts of electricity from renewable energy sources by 2030.
"Many Chinese companies are now involved in both solar energy and wind energy. I look forward to exploring opportunities for cooperation in hydrogen-related innovation. Hydrogen-related innovation can play a major role," said the Ambassador.
He also mentioned, "We have a good relationship with Guangdong because we have a significant Bangladeshi population here." After visiting Foshan, he realized that China has a very long history and a rich contemporary culture.
He also hoped to see more cultural interaction, saying, "There should be more cultural exchanges and more people-to-people contact between Bangladesh and Guangdong."
