Coldest Winter Solstice recorded, but warmer and sunny weekend ahead

A cold front has extended its grip across Guangdong in the past week, with temperatures in quite a few cities and counties of the province reaching historic low. On December 22, which is the Winter Solstice of the 24 traditional Chinese solar terms, temperatures in Shaoguan, Heyuan, Chaozhou, Shantou, and other regions recorded their lowest levels in nearly four decades. Guangzhou even registered a minimum temperature of 3.3℃, the lowest since 1951.

According to the Guangdong Meteorological Observatory, the coldest period of this cold wave has passed. Clear skies are expected to prevail on the weekend, and temperatures will gradually rise.
