Severe convective weather expected this weekend

A strong convective weather system is anticipated to hit most parts of the Pearl River Delta, northern Guangdong, and eastern Guangdong on May 11 and 12. The weather system is expected to bring moderate to heavy thunderstorms, accompanied by short-lived intense rainfall, localized gale-force winds, and hailstorms.

On May 11, northern Guangdong is poised to experience a transition from cloudy skies to moderate thunderstorms, with pockets of heavy rain expected. The Pearl River Delta will also witness cloudy skies punctuated by thunderstorms. Other areas across the province are likely to remain under mostly cloudy conditions with scattered thunderstorms.

On May 12, the Pearl River Delta and eastern Guangdong are forecasted to be hit by moderate to heavy rain, with localized torrential rain. Meanwhile, northern Guangdong is expected to see moderate thunderstorms to cloudy skies. The remaining regions of the province are anticipated to be mostly cloudy to overcast, with scattered thunderstorms.

On May 13, the southern regions are likely to have cloudy skies with thunderstorms and localized heavy rain, while the rest of the province will be mostly sunny to partly cloudy.

As thunderstorms become more frequent over the next three days, authorities strongly advise residents to take proactive measures to safeguard themselves against potential hazards and possible secondary disasters.
